28-Dec-2007 -- We had just successfully visited two confluence points 25N 30E and 26N 31E and were on our way from Kharga Oasis to Luxor and Aswān. Luxor city was very crowded due to the `Id and Christmas holidays, so we only stayed one night and then continued on to Aswān via the new West Desert Highway. Aswān was more relaxing and the weather was warm.
Inspired by the report of Phil Boyle and Claire Halperin who had tried to visit CP 24N 33E on 11 October 2007, we decided to try it as well, as it was so close to Aswān (only 14.2 km). Equipped with their report and with the verbal approval of the tourist/military police authorities we set out to try our luck. First we took a wrong road and drove through very hostile country (very hilly with huge black rocks) and started moving away from our target. We turned back and eventually crossed the railway line as mentioned in the previous report and were then on the right road. From there on we continued on the sealed road which leads to Bi'r Šalatayn. After the check-post we turned right and were able to visit the point without any further problems, as it was only approx. 150 m from the road.
Thanks to the above mentioned report for their encouragement and details (GPS points).
