22-Jan-2005 -- Due to some logistic problems we had to change our mind for the Ḥajj holidays. We decided to explore the two lonesome confluence points 21N 48E and 20N 48E, together with ancient graves and the pre-Islamic excavations in al-Fāw.

After passing one night near Laylā about 350 km south of Riyāḍ, we started Saturday morning in direction southeast. A short stop at the already submitted confluence 21N 47E didn't make the trip more interesting.

We gave to this point the name "Most boring Confluence". Except for the wreck of a Toyota pickup and the seismological measurements of oil companies there was nothing but endless gravel plains. It is another proof of the correctness of the desert's name "al-Rub` al-khāliy" (Empty Quarter).

Only a well-trained eye can see the difference between the view to North and to East. After taking a photo of the group, we headed off south for the next confluence 20N 48E.
