#1: Looking across what we believe to be the exact point

(visited by Mike Smith, Bethilda Smith, Petr Jecminek, Lenka Jecminkova, Ivan Ramos, Andreas Kolb and August Hatecke)

13-Nov-2004 -- Continued from 21N 56E.

This was one of the most interesting points visited. It is exactly on the border between Saudi Arabia and Oman. Not only that, that border takes an abrupt direction change at this point, as shown by the border marker where the fins on top of the pole show the direction of the border.

Our GPS systems gave us the exact reading about 5 m from the marker, but since that is well within the accuracy level of the GPS, we suspect that the marker is a more accurate indication of the point, given that the boundary people probably have more exact equipment than us.

  Notes
According to digitized map data, the borderline to Saudi-Arabia is running exactly through the Confluence, while forming a slight bend there. The borderline's legs are running from here in approx. directions WSW and NNE.
