#1: General view as see to the North

(visited by Chakrit Ratanapibul)

20-Jan-2015 -- Since Oct. 2014 when I visited 13N 100E, I did not intend to visit any CP, but Jan. 19, 2015 I traveled to the North to feel the cool winter. The destination was Nan (น่าน). Nan was the only province I never visited of Thailand's 77 provinces.

19 Jan 2015, 9 am. With my car, I left my home, Saraburi (สระบุรี) by road no. 21 to Phetchabun (เพชรบูรณ์) some 250 km. Then road no. 12 to Phitsanulok (พิษณุโลก) and stayed there one night. In the morning I left for Denchai (เด่นชัย) where 18N 100E is located by road no. 11. I reached Denchai at noon and had lunch there, a simply Thai popular dish called "Khoa pat kaproaw kia dao" (ข้าวผัดกะเพราไข่ดาว) (rice covered with fried pork + holy basil leaf + fried egg)

I started at Denchai railway station by the local asphalt road to the west of Pak Pan station (ปากปาน) some 10 km. By GPS the CP is not more than 500 m from the station, there was a dirt path climbing up almost directly to the point. I drove 300 m, the path tended to turn left, I parked and walked until the GPS arrow pointed to the right, and descended to the train track below. The point is located 20 m from the track but under some bushes. Fortunately with some attempts, stepping forward and backward, I could get all zeros. Took photos, then left at 2 pm.

From Denchai by road no. 11, I visited Phrae Maung Phee (แพะเมืองผี) seeing the soil columns eroded by wind and water many million years ago, leaving piles of harder soil remaining in the various shapes of mushrooms, cliffs and columns, attracting hundred thousands of tourists each year.

At 2 pm, I left for Vieng Sa (เวียงสา) district seeing "เฮือนรถถีบ" (bicycle house) where there is a collection of one hundred and fifty old bicycles in a private building but open to every person who is interested. That afternoon I went to Nan, the final destination, stayed there one night, then taking my 8th successful CP visit back to my home the day after.
