13-Feb-2004 --

Our Visit to this confluence occurred on Friday February 13, 2004 , a warm and sunny day, as most are in the Caribbean during this time of year. The vessel used was a 37 foot Jeanneau Sailboat, rented from a local sailboat charter company based in Oyster Pond, St. Martin.

After an early morning start from an anchorage in St. Barts, we set sail in a 15 knot eastern wind and moderate seas – perfect Caribbean sailing weather.

The destination for this day sail was Marigot, the capitol of French St. Martin, located on the northern side of the island. Upon leaving our anchorage, we set our GPS to the co-ordinates, set off on a broad reach and simply steered an almost direct path, arriving in a few hours after our morning departure.

Behind us in the distance was St. Barts, off to the South was the mountainous Saba, and only a few miles to the north-east was Sint Maarten, with Phillipsburg the closest major city.
