(visited by Captain Peter)

22-Mar-2007 -- Captain Peter's Confluence season 2007 is declared open ;-)

Recently I joined the "UBC SYDNEY" in the Panama Canal. She is a sister ship of the former confluence boat "UBC SINGAPORE" and employed in a similar trade (mainly within the Americas). After loading 31,500 tons of iron ore at Manzanillo (State of Colima) with destination Matanzas on Río Orinoco (Venezuela), we left this port tonight, and this evening shortly prior sunset we passed 17N 101W.

This Confluence lies 30.6 km SSE of Morro de Papanoa, a bold, rocky headland covered with brush. The coast is generally mountainous, which prove the views to NW, and NE. The mountains around are of volcanic origin and attain an elevation of up to 1,670 metres (5,500 ft). The highest ones are Cerro Santa Marid Pedregal, Monte Covuquilla, and Monte Apusabalcos.

After this first activity in 2007 we continued to proceed through slight seas towards the Panama Canal.
