02-Feb-2008 -- This is the third of a series of 83 confluence visits during our voyage from Nigeria to Europe and back to Nigeria around the entire African continent. It all started on 28 January at 11N 5E.

Story continues from 13N 3E.

We have been staying a couple of days in Niamey. Our aim for the day is to visit the confluence 14N 2E.

We find the way out of the town and are travelling towards Ouallam. 2 km after Gaubé there is a turnoff to the village Boukanda. The road is in good condition and leads us to the next village Kogra Tegui, which is 6 km from the Confluence, instead to Baney Keyna and further on to Gnaberi Koara, which is 2 km from the Confluence.

But the road still continues in direction of the Confluence. Near the Confluence there is a small settlement. It was there that we left the road and the last couple of hundred meters we travelled on a small path directly to the Confluence. It was a pleasant drive; there was no traffic, only donkey carts on the way.

On the way back we stopped at one of the water wells. The girls at the well wanted to tell us desperately something, but unfortunately we could not understand them and continued our return journey to Niamey. The next Confluence will be 14N 3E.
