24-Nov-2007 -- This Confluence is located 24 km north of the Syama Gold Mine in the Sikasso district of Southern Mali. Access to the Confluence is made via a gravel track that links the villages of Fourou and Farkala, then cross country through snake infested swamps (puff adders sited), woodlands, and occasional farmland (maize, chillies, and cotton fields).

11N 6W is located in a currently disused field, nearby to a current crop of maize. Scattered cashew trees are located in the area surrounding the Confluence.

The ethnic groups in the area comprise Bambara and Senufo people and occasional Fullani nomads. Income is generated from cash crops such as cotton supplemented by gold prospecting in the dry season.

The confluence area is covered by modern alluvium. Basement geology in the area is dominated by Tabakoroni Formation metasediments belonging to Palaeo-proterozoic Bagoë Birimian Greenstone belt.
