20-Mar-2002 -- This point is in the “Golfo de Nicoya” (Nicoya Gulf), in the north part of “Isla Caballo” (Horse Island). We took the ferry from Puntarenas to Playa Naranjo and then rented a small boat that took us there.
During this trip we discovered the true of the Spanish saying that “a man with a watch knows the time, but a man with two watches is never sure of the time”. We used two GPSs and spend more than an hour around the point trying to take a picture of the two GPSs showing the point. Each GPS showed the point to be few meters apart, and when very close to the point one pointed to one direction and the other to a different direction. We also discovered, how difficult is to maintain a boat in the same position for few minutes.
The main picture shows part of the islands of Caballo (left), Bejuco (right), and Venado (in the middle) plus in the background you can see part of the “Peninsula de Nicoya” (Nicoya Peninsula).
It is interesting to point out that there is a community of fisherman that lives in “Isla Caballo” (Caballo Island) and there is a public school in the island. However, there are no rivers or other sources of drinking water in the island.
