#1: View South towards the confluence

(visited by Thomas Weber)

04-Mar-2008 -- This confluence was fairly easy to reach. From the small coastal town of Krui I took a bus to Liwa where a road branches to the Ranau Lake. Arriving at Liwa I was approached by many motorbike-taxi drivers who were willing to take me to the confluence. In the village of Pekonbalak, on the way to Danau Ranau, another smaller road goes off towards the confluence. In the first part it is asphalted, but later turned into a steep dirt road. After a few meters our motorbike turned out to be to weak for the trip. I didn´t mind too much, since now the confluence was only three kilometers away. But another guy with a stronger bike stopped and offered me a lift for the next two kilometers. He was a real artist on his bike! Being a little more than 1 km from the point, I could see on my high resolution satellite map, that some smaller roads would lead me to within 300 m of the confluence. This last stretch was done quickly and one road passed the point in a distance of only 50 m. I didn´t try to get nearer, since the point was in or just outside side a field in which I didn´t want to tap. The view from the point was beautiful. To the north there is a view of Ranau Mountain which is on the shore of Lake Ranau.

On the way back I was lucky to get a lift all the way back to Liwa on the motorbike of a friendly policeman.
