29-May-2005 -- THE NEW CAPTURE: DC S36 65W
Sunday May 29th after lunch. Our work on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning blocked our purpose of going to the southwest, in order to look for the meridian W66 and the latitudes S37 and S38.

Atilio and me analysed the map and realized that we had enough time to go the DC S36 65W because we could approach by asphalt roads to its surroundings. We left Santa Rosa to the north by route 35 until Winifreda, where we turned left by route 10 and then to the north by route 11. We left the asphalt road at 7 km of the DC, which was to the west, apparently in a rough uncleared place. When we were on meridian 36 we were 5.5 km at the east of the DC but there was no path to take. We followed to the north and after some kilometres we found a track to the west. When we crossed meridian 65 we were 1.7 km at the north of the DC but a fence and again a rough uncleared forest blocked our progress. We continued to the west by the same track and a couple of kilometres ahead, we found a gate that would possibly approach us to the DC.

To our dislike, a padlock blocked again our intentions. We decided to continue although the track led us far away of the DC. Something could happen to help us. We found other path to the south and we took it: again the parallel 36 but we were 4.6 km at west of the DC.

We followed it without expectations to reach our goal. We found “El 10 Ranch” gate’s without padlock and it recreated our hopes because someone could tell us how to get the key of the padlock. We went into the ranch and we arrived to the farmhouse, which was 6.6 km in straight line of the confluence. A peasant in charge of the ranch attended us mistrustly but he allowed us to enter to investigate our possibilities. At this moment, his son, Jose María, the “Negro” arrived and he showed interest in our purpose because he knew something about GPS; he offered to go with us to reach the DC and he believed that the DC was in the neighbouring ranch but there wouldn’t be problems due to he had the keys of the padlocks.

Our hopes were increasing. We drove by some paths near the fences crossing beautiful seeded countryside and many gates. Near the confluence, the track was in very bad conditions (removed soil for seeding) and I had to put the 4WD to progress; we stopped 400 meters at the east of the confluence and then we walked anxiously to it across the uncleared forest, happily not very hard. Finally we reached our goal. Like always, celebrations and many photographs: We got the DC S36 W65 and we had our third confluence of the last days. We went back and as usually we finished drinking “mate” in the farmhouse with Jose Maria and his family talking about our curious hobby of hunting confluences. We gifted them with our classic wine bottles to thanks their cooperation.

Atilio detected a yard with scapegoats and he bought one of them to cook the next days. It was very interesting to see how the peasant killed and prepared the animal for cooking.

We were very happy to catch another confluence and we went back to Santa Rosa after 330 kilometres in 6 hours.
