14-Oct-2006 -- This confluence comes preceded from the capture of la 35ºS 66Wº.

Two hundred boring kilometers on the Interstate Route188 deposited us in General Alvear (Mendoza), where the new was that the Jeep Cherokee of the group came with some fault, nothing worrisome at the moment.

We refilled combustible and then we departed to the heart of the Mendoza desert, first crossing a zone of small farms (Soitué) and then by a sandy, sinuous, heavy and very little used track of about 8 km in length flanked by two fences that divided something unexplained.

The problem of the Jeep Cherokee had started to get worse and whenever it failed, the solution was to stop the engine and to start again, a hard test for the starter engine of a car with automatic transmission.

At the end of the track, we found a modest ranchouse where we asked for the authorization to enter into the property. Our position was about 1000 meters from the confluence 35ºS 68ºW. The peasant immediately gave us the permission.

We left our vehicles to the shade of some trees because it was noon and the sun of the desert began to tighten hard. We started walking by the hot desert. It would have been possible to try with the vehicles but we wouldn’t had advanced faster and also we could have some puncture in their tires.

With enough effort, we were able to arrive and to obtain the third confluence of the day. The surrounding landscape, towards the south and the west was preannouncing us the adventures of the following day.

The trip to next confluence, 35ºS 69Wº, we would attempt it through the fabulous Atuel’s Canyon.
