23-Dec-2001 -- Matakana, NSW
Continued from 34ºS 145ºE.
After a longer than expected drive from the previous confluence due to an ill-fated attempted short-cut, we finally reached this confluence near a railway line at Matakana next to the Nombinnie Nature Reserve.
Our approach was along the Kidman Way (a.k.a. Mount Hope Road) from the south. After reaching the railway line, we drove along a service road to the south of the railway line. As the confluence neared, we crossed over to the other side of the tracks and parked about 600 metres from the confluence. The walk looked a little bit too long and too difficult for the children, so Ada and the kids waited in the car while I headed into some fairly dense scrub.
There isn’t much of a view from the confluence, but it is a good example of what the land around here that hasn’t been cleared for farming looks like.
