I found out about this project very recently and as the confluences in my region hasn’t been visited yet, I decided to do it.

My wife Betty and I set off on a nice, sunny Sunday afternoon towards 27°S 55°W. On the way Karina and Susana, two friends, joined us. The first 20 km were on asphalt, then 10 km of dirt road along the beautiful geography of this subtropical and humid region.

Going through natural rainforest and crops we started to approach the spot. We were lucky to find a road that ended in a house only 300 metres away from the confluence, there I tried to explain the owner, an elderly man, what my intentions were and even though I think he never fully understood what this “confluence” stuff was about, he kindly offered himself as a guide. Also his 10-year-old grandson joined the expedition.

The next 200 metres were easy, then the vegetation was becoming more and more exuberant. We had and advantage: we’ve lived here all our lives and we’re used to moving around in this kind of geography.

Only 15 metres away from the exact spot, we came across a small creek. It was only a matter of going southwards along it and then a few metres into the vegetation of the opposite bank where the confluence would be.

We had a little problem: the confluence was in the middle of dense vegetation and there were wasps. The elderly man got stung in the face and I got stung in one of my shoulders. All the same we managed to take the pictures and left thinking about the next confluence...
