#1: View of the confluence looking north east.

(visited by Rod Kevill, John Kevill and Sandra Kevill)

11-Oct-2005 -- [This trip was a rather quickly planned expedition, initially with seven unvisited confluence points as targets over a period of nine days. The party consisted of my wife Sandra and myself, and my brother John in a second vehicle. Mostly, the exercise was an excuse to see a bit more of the Pilbara region of Western Australia, and to get away from some unseasonably cold weather in Perth.]

Having refuelled in Newman, we headed off on the Newman-Karijini road towards the north west. I had contacted the Juna Downs station manager, Ben Newland, to request permission to use the station tracks and he had agreed to leave the gates unlocked. (Interestingly, Ben's father owned Sylvania Station which we had passed through a few days earlier after our attempt at 24°S 121°E).

We located the turnoff and proceeded east along a freshly graded track with the spectacular Mt Robinson on our right and a low range of hills on our left. We were able to drive to within about 1.5km of the confluence, but the remaining part was uphill all the way and the ambient temperature was about 35°C. Spinifex was the dominant flora, with occasional gums on the slopes and gullies.

We crossed the main ridge and located the confluence part way down the other side, took the usual photos, then proceed back down the ridge to the vehicles. After a very welcome icy drink from the fridges, we drove back to the main road, then on to Mt Florence station and the next CP, 22S 118E.

Our score was now two out of three of our seven targeted confluences.
