01-Aug-2009 -- This is the 79th of a series of 83 confluence visits during our voyage from Nigeria to Europe and back to Nigeria around the entire African continent. It all started on 28 January 2008 at 11N 5E.

Story continues from 21S 15E.

The last night we spent at the Acacia campsite at Otjiwarongo. We had a very pleasant surprise because we met Steffen and Steffi, two Germans whom we had met before on their tour through Africa.

From Otjiwarongo we took the C38 to Outjo and continued on this road another 8 km before we turned off onto the C40 leading to Kamanjab. After around 10 km the road bypasses the Confluence by 3.4 km. There was a recent green painted gate and behind a path leading in the direction of the Confluence, but this gate was locked. We were not in the mood to climb over and try to walk this distance, however stayed there and had our lunch.

After a while a car stopped and wanted to enquire what we were doing there. It turned out it was the farm owner's wife. We explained our reason being there and were invited to come to the farm called De Hoop to get the key for the gate. At the farm we were very warmly welcomed by the farmer, and he suggested we should try first a road leading from the farmhouse more or less in the desired direction. We tried this route and got this way as close as 300 meters to the Confluence.

After completing all necessary documentation we returned to the farmhouse and had a pleasant conversation with Frank de Roux, the farmer, and his friend before we continued our journey to the Etosha National Park.
