Duas razões me levaram a tomar essa decisão.

Antes de confirmar a entrada no rio, o barqueiro consultou e me enviou a previsão do tempo.

Paramos a 42 metros do ponto exato e eu tirei as fotos.

05-Jan-2022 -- This narrative continues from 20S 50W.

After stopping to take a snack, replacing the lunch, at Mira Estrela city, São Paulo state, I headed to Santa Fé do Sul city. As at the previous day, I faced a strong rain in this leg. When I had arrived at Santa Fé do Sul, I went straight to the Tourism and Culture Bureau of the city.

In September 2019, more than two years ago, I had made my first attempt to visit the 20S 51W confluence. As I had cited in that attempt, I had visited the Tourism Bureau of Santa Fé do Sul searching by information about boatmen that could help me to go to the confluence, which is located in Paranaíba River, 1,270 meters to the shore. In that occasion, after waiting a lot, I had gotten the contact of only one boatman and, even so, I only had managed to talk with him after I had already given up on the visit.

At this time, the visit to the Bureau was much more productive. Besides I had a much quicker response, they gave me the contact of not one but four different boatmen.

After returning to the car, I called to the first boatman, and he said me that he hasn’t a boat, but he would talk with other person that has a boat and would call me back.

I decided, then, to search by a hotel, in order to have more comfort and to better organizing the calls that I would make to schedule the visit to the confluence. Instead of spending the night at Santa Fé do Sul, however, I prefered to travel more 130 kilometers and to spend the night at Três Lagoas city, Mato Grosso do Sul state. I had made this due to two reasons. First, because Três Lagoas is a much bigger city and it’s also a city that I would like to know. And second because, after making the first call I felt like I wouldn’t manage to schedule the visit to the 20S 51W soon at the following morning, and then I intended to spend the following morning, eventually, visiting other confluence near Três Lagoas.

I travelled from Santa Fé do Sul to Três Lagoas. In this leg, I crossed Tietê River and, then, the Paraná River, leaving São Paulo state and entering in Mato Grosso do Sul state. The line between São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul states, in its whole extension, is marked by Paraná River, a very wide river. I had already crossed this river, between these states, at three different points. The first crossing was between Presidente Epitácio city, São Paulo state, and Bataguassu city, Mato Grosso do Sul state, cited in 21S 52W confluence narrative (which has, by the way, a photo of the river). The second crossing was between Aparecida do Taboado city, Mato Grosso do Sul state, and Santa Fé do Sul city, São Paulo state, at the first attempt to 20S 51W confluence. And the third crossing was the current one, near Três Lagoas city.

I finished the day with about 400 driven kilometers since the beginning of the day and spent the night from Tuesday to Wednesday at Três Lagoas. My travel to this city, however, was useless, at least considering the second of the cited reasons, because I managed, by the second contact of boatman, to schedule the navigation by the river already at the following morning. The boatman wanted even set sail at 9:00. However, as I was 130 kilometers to Santa Fé do Sul, I scheduled with him at 11:00.

Before confirming the navigation, the boatman queried and sent me the wheather forecast. Although there was risk of rain, the wind of the following day would be very weak, and this would ensure, according to the boatman, a very calm navigation.

At the following morning, I woke up early, took a breakfast, checked out the hotel and crossed again the Paraná River, back to the São Paulo state. It rained a lot during the trip, indicating that, if we had scheduled the beginning of the sail at 9:00, instead of 11:00, we would face a lot of rain in the boat.

We gathered not at Santa Fé do Sul city, but in front of Grandes Lagos thermal resort, near Santa Clara d’Oeste city, at a place nearer to the confluence. At exactly 11:00, the boatman, named Amilton, as known as Tico, arrived, with his car, towing the boat.

We went to the edge of the river, at a place in front of the road-railway bridge that crosses the river between Santa Fé do Sul and Aparecida do Taboado cities, previously cited. Tico put the boat on the river and we set sail. At the point where we started the navigation, we were 10.5 kilometers beeline to the confluence. The sailed distance, however, was a bit longer, about 11.4 kilometers, because we must leave Paraná River and entering in Paranaíba River, detouring the “nose tip of Minas Gerais state”, the piece of land where the state ends. The engine of the boat was very powerful, and sailing by 50 kilometers per hour speed, we arrived at the confluence quickly.

We stopped 42 meters to the exact point and then I took the photos. We were close enough to register a successful visit. In offshore confluences, it didn’t worth to try to get all GPS zeroes, because it’s an extremely hard task.

With this visit, I completed 45 visited confluences in Minas Gerais state. It’s now remaining only seven to complete all confluences of the state. I plan to visit all these remaining confluences, but these last ones are getting harder and harder.

We made all the way back and arrived at the point where I had left the car less than one hour after departing. After the visit, I came back to Santa Fé do Sul, where I stopped to get lunch. Then, I headed to the next confluence of the day.

This narrative continues on 20S 52W attempt.
