In September 29th, 2002, the Walking Group discovered one more confluence. The chosen one is located near Paracatu city (MG), which is 200km far from Brasília.

One more time, we could realize that we can not underestimate a confluence, for it can take revenge. And it happened. Due to its proximity from the road, we thought it would be very easy to conquer this confluence. We divided ourselves in two groups: The hard one (Cabral, Ivete, Wilson, Alline) thought it would be easy, so they decided to take a longer and more radical way. The other one (Jamal, Kelly Resende, Fernando, Eduardo, Kátia and Melissa) went as far as the nearest farm, and started searching from there.

Both groups were taken by surprise because of an uneven land, full of valleys, with small canyons, several high mountains to be climbed, the sun was very hot, and many…many ticks!

We, from the hard group, gave up at 4p.m. (Thanks God!), when we were still 2,48km far from the confluence. The visible part of the land was really difficult, but we discovered later that it would be even worse!

The light group started walking, and there were no serious problems to face. However, they had to go through complicated stretches. They went up and down some hills and came across the most difficult part of the course: a deep jungle with a canyon in the middle of it, where there was a small river. It was not something so hard, but there was a problem: Melissa had her foot dislocated, and she could not force it any more. Even so, they arrived at the confluence at 3:20p.m. First, they had lunch. Then, they took some pictures and finally, they got the way back home.

It was night, and the way was even worse. In those conditions, Melissa could not walk anymore. We put in action the hard group by the radio, and they came in order to help us. The GPS co-ordinates were passed by the radio, but the most difficult thing was to find a way to get them. It was dark, and we could see a jaguar (Panthera Onca) on the way.

With the help from a native person who lived there, we could find the best way among all those tracks. A road inside the farm passed near them. That was how we could get there by car. We went out from the jungle at 9p.m.

The experience of dividing the group in two parts was a great idea, in my opinion. We make different courses, with different stories and difficulties. Besides, it is interesting to divide the people according to their disposition to walk. It pleases everybody!
