06-Sep-2002 -- This confluence, the first for our Goddess, is located in the El Questro Wilderness Park, a beautiful area in the east of the Kimberley region, northern Australia. The confluence itself lay 1.2km ENE of the nearest road, the access road to the El Questro township. Whilst two of our team chose showers over hiking, three (plus Goddess) were not to be deterred by the high temperature and the prospect of climbing a couple of rather steep ridges. Chris remained optimistic for the first 500m, constantly re-iterating his belief that "it looks like it could be just on top of the second ridge - we might have a view!". However, distances deceive in the Australian bush, a place where the local shops might be 3 hours drive away, and so it was that upon reaching the first ridge we were still the best part of a kilometre from our target. The view to the next ridge was, indeed, good though.

By this time Yvonne was looking like a seasoned bush fire fighter, dappled with charcoal collected from partially burnt vegetation (the area having experienced a recent bush fire)and a little perspiration. The Goddess, in contrast, was still quite fresh and serene although perhaps a bit stony faced.

As we approached our spiritual destiny with lat and long, since it was her first confluence, Yvonne took over navigation. The sun was setting and the Goddess was finaly placated as she topped our rock cairn. The moment was photographed, and we headed off for showers.

El Questro is a working cattle station that also caters very well for visitors with accomodation ranging from $12 bush camping right on the river to $1000 a night luxury accomodation. Three rivers meet in the park and the gorges provide for fabulous bush walking as well as the opportunity to view some stunning rock art.
