09-Oct-2009 --

09-Oct-2009 --

Thursday 8th October at 10h00 in the morning after a heavy night out in Ayacucho, we left for a 3 day expedition towards S14W74. In Google Earth we saw that a road passed quite close to the point but apparently didn’t continue and that this road was a deviation of a national “highway” towards Ica (more like a “National dirt road”). The most obvious route was Ayacucho, Pampas Cangallo, Sancos, Sacsamarca and then take the deviation towards the lagoons Huachoajasa and Tajata. The idea was to camp the 1st night next to the lagoons but in Pampa Cangallo they told us that the national route was closed due to roadworks and that we would have to go through Huancapi to arrive at Sacsamarca. So in the end we arrived in Sacsamarca at 7pm instead of 5pm, passing villages like Huancaraylla, Circamarca, Carapo, Sancos.

The lagoons were still at 3 hour drive away so we decided to camp in the curve of the road that we found in the darkness. We parked the car and made the supper next to the campfire.

The following morning we continued our conquest and left the car in the place we anticipated at 5km near the confluence-point. From there we walked about 2 hours and finally arrived at the S14W74 at 11h33 at an altitude of 4319 m. We made it, the point was ours. We dedicated a bit of rum to Pachamama and to ourselves of course, out of gratefulness.

On the way back we travelled through a hail storm but it didn’t matter we had got what we wanted. In the last village of Thalguamayo before arriving at the lagoons we asked some road-workers if there wasn’t a shorter route to return to Huancapi and there we heard that the route we took wasn’t really necessary and that it was much shorter to continue the same way towards Chumbilla, Circamarca and Canaria. Before arriving at Huancapi we made the 2º camp, satisfied but tired. The 3th day was just a matter of returning to Ayacucho and to complete the adventure I made a small flight with my paraglider in Cangallo from a somewhat inadequate and rather committing take-off. We finally arrived at 17h00 in Ayacucho.
