(visited by David Coombs)

22-Sep-2023 --

Lima is a large, busy city with almost constant foggy days for much of the year. Downtown has fine Spanish colonial buildings and is famous for its fine dining while the more distant suburbs spread up to the surrounding hills. 12S 77W is about 10k from the city centre and 16k from my hotel.

During a work visit to Peru I was happy to discover this easy point - my first in South America. I was slightly concerned about security as it had been mentioned in some of the previous visit write-ups, but visiting by taxi in the middle of the day with plenty of people and traffic around there was no obvious cause for alarm.

As mentioned by previous visitors the point is in the middle of a busy road junction and I settled for a 9 metre closest approach on the GPS then dancing in front of the traffic. After visiting the point I walked to the nearest overground railway station (Estacion Jardines on linea 1). After a few stops I took a taxi into the city centre and spent the rest of the day on more conventional tourism.
