10-Jun-2012 – Within the period 10–11 June 2012 I have made a motor race on a route Novosibirsk (Russia) – Pavlodar (Kazakhstan) – Maraldy lake (Kazakhstan) – Novosibirsk. On my way I have visited the following confluences: 53°N 77°E, 53°N 78°E, 52°N 78°E, and attempted to reach 52°N 77°E.

I was driving by Chevrolet Niva car, and have overcome 1754 km distance within 30 hours (including 4 hours sleep). I made this trip alone as Alexander Lobanov couldn’t join me due to personal plans and in the reason that I lingered with my proposal. Actually I didn’t plan to go too, the idea came up spontaneously. Evgeniy Bayev was occupied with some urgent matters, thus there were no other enthusiasts who desired to take part in such kind of activity.

I reached successfully the confluence 53°N 78°E, thereafter I set off towards 52°N 78°E. My way laid through Pavlodar, Krasnoarmeyka, and before Takyr village I made right turn from asphalted road onto a smooth gravel road. A confluence is located in the steppe in 2.5 km far from the gravel road and in 85 m far from a field dirt road. There is only endless steppe all around, nothing else, no grass flavour in sweltering day, only a variety of lively clouds, including thunderous ones.

CP visit data:

  • Mileage from Novosibirsk: 872 km
  • Arrival time (local): 14.10 (local time)
  • Altitude: 155 m
  • Features of road: steppe
  • Weather: wind, partly cloudy, rare drops of rain, +29°C.

When all necessary procedures on the confluence were finished I set off to Maraldy lake in order to refresh myself. I have passed Maraldy village (former Romanovka) and farm Bolat and having kept a dirt field road, I got to a sandy bank of the lake.

Information: therapeutic mud from the salty waters of Maraldy lake attracts thousands of lovers annually. Temperature of water on the bottom of Maraldy lake, which mud cures rheumatism and joint pain, is 10–15°C higher than on the surface. The inventory of therapeutic mud is estimated as 100 thousand cubic metres. Moreover, there are deposits of blue cosmetic clay at the bottom of the lake. It is warm and doesn't require extra heating, so this clay is effective and provides anti-aging influence. From the bottom of water pond located nearby it is possible to collect the black mud. With its help a joint pain can be cured. Salty water density keeps the body afloat. Besides local residents like to compare Israel Dead Sea with their Maraldy lake which are equal according to salinity.

In a word, this place justly can be called unique. Not accidentally in 2004 a special resolution of Cabinet of Ministers of Kazakhstan included Maraldy salt lake to the list of specially protected water property.

In a real situation I saw a very old rubbish (empty and broken bottles among them) on the lakeside. After having a swim in the lake, I headed to the next destination, 52°N 77°E. I just drove a little away as I felt how salt effects my skin, actually it was not pleasant feeling. So I had to make a stop and spend all fresh water to bathe myself (about 3 liters), including 1.5 liters of mineral water. I've changed clothes and drove forward.
