#1: Confluence in foreground and looking North-East

(visited by Stan and Dawson)

20-Oct-2002 -- Sunday morning turned out to be as cold and miserable as the whole of Saturday; nothing better to do than to visit another confluence point in our area. GPS reading showed it was 110 km due South and it proved to be 130 km by car. Took us an hour and a half to get to a small place called Glückstadt.

From there no suitable track was branching off the main road in the right direction, so we drove up the hill through a firebreak. Once on top, we had a sweeping view of the area and could plan our next move. We knew the Confluence is near a railway track, which we saw far away 200 m lower in elevation. No way we could get any nearer by car from this spot. This was the wrong approach route. But we noticed a farmhouse in the target area and a farm road leading to it from somewhere. We decided to drive back and find that farm road.

Soon we were there and at the farmhouse. We gave our friendly farmer a letter from the Degree Confluence Project Team and were allowed to freely roam on his farm. It was possible to drive another kilometre and then 2 km hike through open grassland. We crossed the railway line and suddenly we were there. Grass all around and local village in mid distance.
