15-Aug-2005 --

This was the first confluence we ever attempted on November 9, 2003 after discovering The Degree Confluence Project. On that occasion we didn't have a 4x4 vehicle and we counted on our friend Zanutto to take us to the place. We arrived to 1250 meters of the point, in the end of a pinus plantation, where the native forest, of very difficult access, made us come back.

In a second attempt, on January 25, 2004, Zanutto and his girlfriend Lígia took us on an approach to the point from the north side. Again we didn't find access and came back disappointed.

After a series of postponements, we left for the hunting, this time attacking the point from the south. The available satellite images were taken in 1999 and with too low resolution for our purpose, impeding us to identify the accesses. The GPS was pointing to another Pinus plantation beyond the native forest. As it was already noon, we decided to do a barbecue before the final attack to the point.

Arriving close to the place we verified that there were a lot of changes in relation to the first visits and we decided to review the footsteps of the first two attempts. Everything was as before, but this time we left the vehicles at the end of the trail and got in the woods by foot until a place where we could better evaluate the terrain. This plantation is accessible for the south forcing us to a detour of more than ten kilometers.

After the barbecue and a lot of laughters we left for the conquest. We explored other tracks before a by-pass the forest in search of the south access. All in vain.

About 16:30 we passed by an abandoned trail and the GPS was pointing to the left indicating 400 meters. We entered the trail and got to walk about 150 meters arriving to a fence and our well-known native forest. We had about 150 meters to go until entering the 100 meters radius that would grant us the conquest of this confluence. Edmundo and Beco opened the trail with a large knife while I was reading GPS and informing the distance until the point.

The point is 20 meters besides a small stream that was crossed with certain difficulty with slips and falls.

This point is one of the last two not visited of Parana state until this date and it is in an area where the native forest is being dropped to give place to reforestations of Pinus Elliotis for paper and furniture production.
