Desci do carro e iniciei a caminhada.

No dia seguinte, terça-feira, acordei cedo e segui viagem.

13-Jan-2020 -- This narrative continues from 18S 41W.

After spending the second night of my vacations at Teófilo Otoni city, I woke up early in the morning, checked out the hotel and went to the last confluence of the trip. I caught a small leg at BR-116 highway and then I turned left and caught BR-217 highway, passing by Poté and Malacacheta cities and arriving at Franciscópolis small city, after traveling by about 105 kilometers.

In Franciscópolis, a public work was blocking the access to the dirt road that heads to the confluence, and I must ask a person how to access the road. After getting the information, I went ahead, by a leg in dirt road, 4+ kilometers long, which was incredibly steep. It was so steep that its beginning was paved with stones in order to make the passing by cars doable. In other legs, unpaved, my car had a lot of hardness to climb.

Although the dirt road passes only 300 meters to the exact point, the satellite photos show that there is a track that begins a bit before. Intending to find this track, I stopped the car in a lower area, before climbing a mountain, 500 meters to the confluence.

I left the car and started the hike. However, I didn’t managed to find the track that I saw in satellite photos, because the local situation was a bit different in relation to the photos. I decided, then, went ahead, by dirt road, climbing the mountain. The climb was extremely tiring and I started to think that, perhaps, it was better to use the car to climb. I decided, however, keep hiking, and this decision would be the better one, as it will be demonstrated in sequence.

I keep climbing the mountain, realizing that I was rounding the confluence, which, as I can see, lies near or inside a very dense forest, half distance between the bottom and the top of the mountain. After hiking by 940 meters, I arrived at the highest point of the dirt road. Then, I entered in a bush area and started to try to approximate to the exact point.

I entered more and more in a denser area of forest and, at the same time, I realized that there was a track inside this area, which, more and more, descends the mountain. After some time, I realized that that was the track that I was searching for, and, if I didn’t find it at the bottom of the mountain, I found it at the top. Then, I followed the track, descending the mountain, and easily arrived at the exact point, where I got all GPS zeroes, exactly on the track.

After registering the visit, I keep hiking down by the track. Leaving the car at the bottom of the mountain, then, was the better decision, because, if I left it at the top, I would must to climb the mountain again by the track.

At its final leg, the track enters in an area with many cattle, in a farm and, then, in order to avoid this area, I must left the track. I arrived at the top of a slope, and I descended it with some hardness. A bit after, I finally arrived at the dirt road, and finished the hike up to the car.

I made all the way back to Teófilo Otoni, where I stopped to have lunch, because it was almost 14:00.

After the lunch, I resumed the trip by more 140 kilometers up to Governador Valadares city, where I arrived about 16:20. It was yet possible to continue the trip, but I prefer to spend the night in this city, because it is bigger and has more infrastructure.

The result of my short vacations, in terms of confluence visits, was very good, because I managed to visit three out of four planned confluences, and the only one that I didn’t managed to visit, the 17S 42W one, is the nearest to my home in Montes Claros city and, then, I will have the opportunity to make a new attempt to there.

In the following day, Tuesday, I woke up early in the morning and resumed the trip. In this day, my plan was to visit two small cities in the region, Virginópolis and São João Evangelista, and take some photos, by reasons that are not related to confluence visits. I accomplished this objective, stopped to have lunch at Guanhães city and arrived at Belo Horizonte before the nightfall, after facing a huge traffic jam at BR-262 highway, due to two reasons: the works of duplication of this leg of the highway and the torrential rains that fell in Belo Horizonte some hours before.

I spent the night in Belo Horizonte. In the following day, Wednesday, I accomplished some duties in the morning, I had lunch in the city and, at the afternoon, I went ahead to Lavras city, at the south of Minas Gerais state, where my parents live. Before, I stopped at other small city, Carmo da Mata, to take photos, as I made in the previous day. Also during this trip from Belo Horizonte to Lavras, the car registered 2000 kilometers since the beginning of my vacations, in Montes Claros.

I spent the remaining days of my vacations in Lavras, city to which my wife and my son also went. Finally, at Sunday, we made the trip back home, travelling by more 640 kilometers during the whole day, with a stop at Belo Horizonte to have lunch.

In August 2019, less than five months ago, in my previous short vacations, I made a trip to visit confluences, in which I passed by six states: Minas Gerais, Goiás, Distrito Federal, Bahia, Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo. The narrative of that trip starts at 14S 46W. In this new trip, on a big contrast, I travelled by 2923 kilometers without leaving the Minas Gerais state.
