17-Dec-2017 -- This narrative continues from 10S 68W.

After the first confluence visit of the day, near Rio Branco city, capital of Acre state, I hadn’t yet decided which confluence I would visit in the afternoon. I had two confluences to choose, in opposite directions: the 9S 69W one, in west direction, which was farther and looked like harder, but which had the advantage of never been visited, and the 10S 67W one, in east direction, nearer and easier, but already visited by someone.

The final decision was taken by the rain. When coming back after the first confluence, I caught a thunderstorm on the highway and, when I arrived at Rio Branco, I realized that the rain was coming from east. Because of this, I opted to visit the confluence in the opposite direction.

I headed to west, by BR-364 highway. I passed by Sena Madureira city, went ahead and turned left on a dirt road, after driving by 180 kilometers. This highway, which joins the capital of Acre and its last cities on west, was in very poor condition in some legs, with many holes, and in other legs, it was already recovered and it was in better condition.

The dirt road leg, a bit more than 3 kilometres long, was in very good condition. I headed easily up to stop the car 400 meters to the exact point. The access to the confluence was much easier than expected, because it wasn’t possible to know, by satellite photos, if this leg in dirt road was drivable or it must be won hiking.

I started the hike by the bush. In this new hike, my main concern was that I was hiking between two country houses, and very near of them, and it was unavoidable to be seen by someone. I hiked quietly and no one gathered to me to know what I was doing there. In this condition, it’s better to avoid any contact, at least when going, because an eventual denied permission to go ahead can make the loss of the visit. Contacts with residents, if this is the case, must be made only when coming back, after the registering of the confluence.

The way had also a bit of cattle, but it wasn’t as near as in the previous confluence. The final metres were harder, in a steeper terrain and with taller bush. With any hardness, I arrived up to the exact point and got all GPS zeroes, for the first time in this trip.

This is an unvisited confluence and the most western that I had already visited until now. It is also, beside 11S 69W confluence, the most western confluence of all visited confluences of Brazil. There are other confluences more western in the country, in the meridians 70W up to 73W, but these weren’t visited yet. This comment makes me remember a very similar comment that I made in the narrative of 4N 61W visit, in Roraima state. In that opportunity, I commented that that was the most northern confluence of all visited confluences of Brazil, and that there was other confluence more northern in the country, but which weren’t visited yet.

After the visit, I made all the way back up to Rio Branco. When I arrived, the night had fallen. I went to the hotel, took a shower, went to dinner, and slept very early, about 20:00. After two barely slept nights, many hours of plane trip, bus trip, and driving the car and three visited confluences, I was very tired.
