(visited by Garry Hartnell)

10-May-2003 -- I was up at 6:00 am to a beautiful, calm, clear sunny day. I cooked breakfast, packed a lunch and made a thermos of coffee for the trip. I had loaded the boat, the motor and dug worms the night before for the trip to the confluence of 54 degrees x 127 degrees. Packed up my fishing gear and headed out from the cabin at 8:00 am. Arrived at Poplar Lake( Tagelochlain )at 9:05 am and the lake was like glass and the sun warm.

I unloaded the boat off the truck and loaded the dog and my gear and pushed off from the campsite. As I got to within 50 metres I putted towards the confluence at trolling speed. I cut the engine at 20 metres and drifted right to the confluence. The time was 10:02 am.

The ice had just gone off the lake and there was still some visible on the shore line to the south west. Looking around the corner I noticed in what we call the narrows of the lake, that it still had slushy ice in it. After taking the photos from the confluence I started to fish. At about 11:00 the wind picked up. At 12:30 I stopped on the south side of the lake on a gravel beach with fire pit and took a photo looking north towards the confluence. I've used this as my general area photo.

I warmed up my lunch on the fire and enjoyed the view. Arrived back at the truck at the campsite at 3:00 pm. Loaded up and headed for home. I have fished on this lake for many years and It was neat to have the confluence out in it and directly across from the beach that we always stop on to have our lunch and a nap when we are here.

When coming out to the lake I turned off the Morice Owen forest service road at 48 km and on to the Tahtsa road. You just get up the Tahtsa road about 100 meters and there is the painted rock. At 15 km and a bit you turn up and on to the road into poplar lake rec site.
