During my summer vacations, I went with my family to visit our relatives in the state of Chiapas in the south of Mexico. The confluence that we (my wife and I) planned to visit is close to my father’s town, around 30 km south of Comitán. The confluence is located East 2 kilometer perpendicular from the Panamerican highway MEX 190, the last weekend we were in Chiapas we made the attempt, we brought a machete with us, because from the highway the hills seemed too dense with vegetation. We left the highway and headed East to Santa Martha, which is a small town of few families. We park the car in the front of a house and a man explained us how to reach the point, which is in the top of a small hill. We had to walk a little. Due to the grazing cattle there was no problem to reach the top. We decided to leave the machete in the car and start walking NW.

The path began to round the hill to the North, and when we had walked ten minutes another trail started to go uphill to our right (NE). I decided not to take it because the GPS displayed a few seconds far from the 16°. Another 5 minutes and another trail began to go uphill now we took it, it seemed to go direct to our goal, suddenly the trail disappeared and we had to walk cross country. We reached the summit and still we had to walk a few meters more. When we started to go down to the other side of the hill we reached the confluence. The place is a little rocky with medium dense vegetation, there is a canopy of 5 meters high trees. The ground is covered with some bushes, some are venomous, and my wife had a scratch in her leg which provoked a red inflammation lasting almost 3 weeks, nothing serious fortunately.

We took some pictures and began to walk back to the car. We found a trail and followed it, at the end it was the first trail that I had decided to skip. In total we were walking for around 2 hours. Unfortunately the photos to the GPS were blurred and I did not send them.

Besides of the GPS we helped with topographic maps of the zone.
