#1: Confluence point

(visited by John Dag Hutchison and Aase Tveitan Hutchison)

02-Oct-2013 -- After 53N14E we stopped over in a hotel in the old part of the town of Schwedt, very close to the German/Polish border. We crossed the border in the morning and used the gps/map in our mobile phone to send us towards 53N15E. The Garmin handheld GPS indicated a distance of around 70 km, but the phone sent us on a run of more than the double. A car map would have been a better option. From the charming town Lipiany where the main road went through some old towers, we headed east and came to a point where we would have to walk about 750 metres in recently harrowed fields. We tried a parallel road a bit further south where we parked in the village of Prądnik, about 850 metres from the cp. A car mechanic at the local garage asked in a mixture of English, German and Russian what we were doing and apparently understood our answers. 40 metres before driving into the village there was a road to the left which we could have driven on but decided to walk. About 300 m from the cp we came across footprints of wild pigs before having to cross through a 70 metres section of two metres high reeds and rush. We followed the tracks of the wild pigs passing through their resting places until we came to a shallow drainage canal forcing us to remove shoes. The cp was just another 150 metres on in the open field.- It would probably have been easier to approach from the north avoiding the reeds, but then we would not have had the nice chat with the car merchanic......

Ps. The date on the GPS should show 2 Oct. 2013, I don't understand why it shows 1 Oct.
