(visited by Gordon Spence and Dave Patton)

15-Jul-2008 -- Second visit of the day and second visit to the Prime Meridian. I have been here before, once with my daughter Rachel and once with Joseph Kerski.

After a fairly routine drive down, which included the London ring road, or M25 as the locals know it, over the bridge over the Thames, we park up and prepare to walk in. It is turning out to be quite a warm day and I am glad that I put my shorts on.

Having been here before I knew the way in, but again I asked Dave to lead off and he took us a way that I hadn't been before. Turns out that it was as simple as the way that I knew.

We wandered into the field and to the point, initially standing a dozen feet apart, then as our units settled down and averaged out we ended up standing right next to each other. As can be seen in the "12 zero's" picture.

While we were documenting the visit we heard the toot of a steam whistle as a train on the Bluebell Railway set off. You can almost imagine what it was like 50 years ago when all trains were "real" ones.

We came back out along the path that I knew, past a field with four young horses who though about coming across to us but settled for chasing each other around the field. Past the Oasthouse and to the car. Pack up the equipment and head off for the 3rd visit of the day - 51N-01W.
