28-Dec-2009 -- After we had decided for a two-week trip to Oman, I looked at once if there were free degree confluence points. I had to realise that all points onshore had been visited already, but I also saw that an interesting point in the mid of a bay north of Ṣalāla is only about 2 km off the coast. This point we wanted to look at, therefore we bought at the beginning of our trip in Masqaṭ a small rubber dinghy as a backup solution, but we hoped to find a reasonable boat on the spot.

After a week we were in Ṣalāla and drove from there on the main road via Mirbāṭ towards 17N 55E. In the area around the bay there are several tracks, so it was no problem to reach the coast. On a small beach in just under 2 km distance west of the degree confluence we pitched our tent. There was no fishing boat here and so we inflated the dinghy and I did a little test drive. I came to the conclusion that it would be nonsense to paddle with such a nutshell on the Indian Ocean and possibly be blown from the sometimes gusty winds towards India. I also regarded the boat's name as a bad omen for the operation.

So I decided not to go out, but to visit at the coast separately the latitude 17 east and west and the longitude 55 north of the degree confluence and to take pictures from there. In this way we got to know the beautiful surrounding area of this degree confluence more intensively.
