11-Jun-2012 -- Continued from 30S-132E.

THIS IS THE SECOND COMPLETE LINE OF CP’s ACROSS AUSTRALIA.

This CP will complete the second line of CP’s across Australia and follows on from 30S-130E, 30S-131E and 30S-132E which I have done in the previous 12 days. I left Maralinga 132E and drove 220kms east along the Trans Australian Railway to the siding of Wynbring.

This put me on the vermin proof fence (dingo fence) which ran up to the North through Mobella and Commonwealth Hill station which is reputed to be the largest sheep station in the world. The 134E CP was near Commonwealth Hill homestead and I was pleased to get access OK from Simon and Katie Robinson the managers of the station.

The drive from the southern boundary of the property/station at Wynbring to the homestead in the centre area of the station was 135kms and then 110kms from homestead to the western boundary and Stuart Highway, gives you an idea of the size of the property.

The CP was only 15kms S.W. of the homestead on a stoney rise just off a station track and I had my first meeting with Simon and Katie and they very kindly took me up to the homestead were I was shown around and invited to have the evening meal with them. The buildings on the property are impressive stone structures and the whole place is very well maintained.

Because of its location, Commonwealth Hill is in the Womera prohibited area and as this is the Womera rocket range, the homesteads and outstations are equipped with bomb shelters which is an unusual sight in Australia. I had a very pleasant time with Simon and Katie and I thank them for their hospitality.
