  49°N 31°E (visit #3)

#1: General view to North-West

(visited by Maxim "Triz" Trofimets, Roma Confluence_hunter and Maryna Confluence_hunter)

07-Aug-2021 – On the weekend we decided to visit two CPs in one day. Both of them are located about 200 km south of Kyiv.

The first point was 49°N 31°E which is near Yerky town. August is the period of ripening of corn, sunflowers, wheat etc. So we expected some difficulties to reach the CP located in the middle of field.

And that is happened as expected! When we arrived by car we found the field full of corn that was more than 2 m high.

On the first attempt (red arrow on the layout) we tried to go through corn along the line of latitude 49°N. Unfortunately that was almost impossible. Staying at the distance of some meters we could hardly see each other.

On the second attempt (green arrow on the layout) we came along the railway, then between the forest and field and finally about 30–40 meters straight through the corn.

After making all necessary pictures we continued our way to 49°N 30°E .

  Notes
Attention: In December 1989 the area around the Confluence had a radioactive surface contamination from Caesium-137 of 37-185 kBq/m², the half-life of Cs-137 being 30 years. Thus the time of stay in this area should be kept as short as possible and appropriate measures should be taken by the visitors to protect themselves against any radioactive contamination.
