27-Jul-2016 -- At the end of July we had family holiday on the Chelmuzhi cape. It is a small peninsula on the north-east of Onego Lake.

During the week that I spent there – between the fishing, swimming, and doing nothing – twice I ran reached out for the nearest confluences. 63°N 35°E and 63°N 36°E looked the most convenient for visiting. Both were about 60 km from our camp and both were relatively close to the road A-119 Medvezh'yegorsk-Vologda.

The first choice fell on 63°N 35°E. My old companion Sergey Milov joined me.

After getting to the road A-119 we moved in direction of Medvezh'yegorsk. Approximately 15 km before Povenets lies the village of Gabsel'ga and the dirt road goes to the north. We turned there and drove about fifteen kilometers along it. The road is partly dry and rocky and partly paved with causeways and covered with water from the surrounding marshes. The locals drive here on the 'Nivas' mostly. The 'Patriot' on the aggressive tires a fortiori didn’t encounter problems. A couple of times we met wooden bridges across the rapid streams.

Aspen and birch boletus stuck out on the roadsides. Willy-nilly but you’ll have to stop.

While we drove the sun was shining brightly. Closer to the goal the north began to thunder aloud. And when we landed near the old cut where the walking part of the route started, the first drops fell. It’s needless to say that we had no protection against the rain. It was getting stronger with each of our steps. After 500 meters we had to hide under the tree. It was a real shower already.

The small spruce neatly accommodated two men and one dog. We spent ten minutes under the shelter from its branches. It let us to get wet not immediately but gradually. We felt accustomed to the new sensations in our bodies and boldly walked forward.

Another two hundred meters along the cut, and the same distance perpendicularly through the thicket. We’re here! The mixed – mostly spruce – forest was around. And then the rain began to subside. After taking the confluence it completely stopped. The sun came out and immediately started to warm. So much that when we returned to the car our upper bodies managed to dry.

The second confluence brought from this trip capitulated a few days later.
