#1: Panoramic View

(visited by Philippe Burtin and Antonella Burtin)

04-Oct-2011 -- I stayed in Berlin to attend the ESICM annual meeting and to report results from our team. On Tuesday Oct. 4th I had a complete day off and we went for a day trip to the wonderful city and castle of Potsdam. But of course we didn’t want to leave Germany without paying a visit to a CP so we just choose 52N 13E conveniently located south of Berlin and allowing us to make a nice round trip in south Brandenburg before getting back in Berlin on time for our return flight.

The CP has been extensively described by previous visitors and this is the 11th visit. It is really easy to reach with a paved road leading less than 200 meters from the point (Is it the easiest german CP?). You can check the growth of the tree oddly located on the confluence by comparing the the pictures taken by Jan Liska during his 2002 visit, and the picture with Antonella standing right on the point. Historical marks of the Russian military airfield nearby, although still visible, are progressively overgrown by the local vegetation.

On our way back we briefly stopped in Luckenwalde and visited the Johanniskirche and the Markturm. The church was built in 1484 and the pre existing tower was then upgraded to serve as a bell tower to the church. To date there is no document stating the dates of building and achievement of the tower. The initial function of that building remains unknown as well (Picture 10 and 11).
